Bojanovsky to Eurohopes: ’’I enjoyed a great experience in CBA’’
By Xavi Sentís
In Florida State (NCAA) there is a kid from Slovakia who just finished his second season with the Seminoles. 7’3’’ Boris Bojanovsky (’93) has increased his stats from last year and in 2013-2014 he has averaged 5.9 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.9 blocks in 21 minutes. Eurohopes talked with him.
-When and why did you decide to take this adventure to a USA college?
I made the decision to play basketball and earn my degree at Florida State University while I was playing in Spain. I talked to my parents and knew it would be great for me to get and education while I am playing basketball.
-You played many years in Spain (Canarias Basketball Academy). How was the experience with the coaches and teammates in the academy? It was really important in your basketball and personal development?
I enjoyed a great experience with great coaches and great players at Canarias Basketball Academy. The three years of my development there allowed me to get a scholarship to play at Florida State and taught me great lessons for my personal life.
-When did you know the real interest from FSU?
I received a scholarship offer from coach Hamilton during my last year in Spain. Florida State instantly became one of the top schools where I wanted to pursue my education and play basketball at a very high level.
-In your freshman year you got the chance to play all games during the season. How did you feel in your freshman season? Did you really feel a great confidence and support from FSU staff?
We have a great coaching staff and help us to know and to grow into our roles as members of the team. I know my role in the team and I worked hard to contribute so much as I could and play well during the minutes coach Hamilton put me into each game.
-Could you describe briefly a typical day in the campus of FSU?
Every day for me is different and that’s what makes things so exciting for me as a student-athlete at Florida State. Each day is different. We usually have classes until the afternoon, then tutoring and then practice. After practice we have some free time to enjoy spending time with my teammates.
-After you finish the senior season at FSU, what is your ambition as basketball player? Have you ’dreamt’ to be drafted and play in the NBA?
I just finished my sophomore year so I have time to improve and work on my game. As my career progresses and we will see. But of course since I was little kid I wanted to play in the NBA but I understand it takes a lot of hard work.
-And what do you think about the Slovakian Republic NT? Would it be possible to play with them in a European Championship in the future? Do you think basketball is improving enough in your country to play at high level?
The last time I represented my country was three years ago and I enjoyed it very much. Basketball is not a big sport in Slovakia but I think as our younger players continue to improve we can play against the better countries in Europe in the coming years. After I finish school it would be my honor to help our NT.
