It was almost a dream, but they woke up this morning. Canterbury, a small club of Canary Islands, was fighting to qualify for the U-16 spanish final round championship. In a small town in Sevilla region (Castilleja de la Cuesta) seven squads wanted one of the two spots for this final round, but finally have been Unicaja Malaga and Gran Canaria (both, ACB teams) who made it. The "star" of Canterbury wasn't enough, losing in the live-or-die game against Gran Canaria (71-40). African prospect Jonathan Kasibabu ('96) -2.02 tall and two years younger than most of the players- has made a great tournament, but too alone: 23+11 against Unicaja, 30+26 (54 valoration) over Cáceres, 20+14 against Sevilla and 12+18 vs Gran Canaria.
The youngster has destroyed the stats in every game during the season in Canary Islands region U-16 championship being U-14 age. In a U-16 tournament some months ago (Ciudad de Santa Cruz) Kasibabu collected 31 points and 36 rebounds in the final. MVP, of course. And two years younger, remember.
