Turkey beat today Romania (46-73), finishing as the best team of the U-16 Balkan Games played in Romania after three victories in three games. Team coached by Omer Ugurata earned the title with 1.97 power-forward Mehmet Alemdaroglu ('96) being selected as the MVP of the tournament. The prospect averaged 14.0 points, 13.3 rebounds and 20.3 efficiency. In the decisive game played today Turkey won with Alemdaroglu having 11 points (4/8 FG) and 10 rebounds. Beside him shined youngster Okben Ulubay ('97) with 7 points, 3 rebounds and 3 steals. At the other side Mehmet Hortoglu ('95) ended as the only player with double digits: 11 points and 3 boards.

 

In the other game played today Bulgaria beat FYROM (44-49) with a great job of Vasil Stoimenov ('95), with 15 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists. Was the only player with more than 9 points. At the losing effort Kristijan Gavrilovski ('95) nailed 13 (5/20 FG) with 9 steals and 4 rebounds. Crazy game of his teammate Martin Krstevski ('95), who coming from a 25 points game he struggled with a -16 efficiency: 3 points (1/12 FG) and 7 turnovers.

 

Results of the first two days:

-Turkey 64 Bulgaria 52: Mehmet Alemdaroglu ('96) led the win with 12 points, 15 rebounds and 1 block. Beside him shined youngster Okben Ulubay ('97) with 16 points (2/5 threes) and 7 boards. At the other side Vasil Stoimenov ('95) ended as the only player with double digits: 10 points, 14 rebounds and 4 steals, even 0/6 threes.

 

-Romania 72 FYROM 56: Great job of Mehmet Hortoglu ('95), 27 points (9/18 FG) and 8 boards, and 2.02 Andrei Ciordas ('95), with 21 points, 12 rebounds and 4 steals. At the losing effort 2.00 Daniel Nacevski ('95) collected a 21 efficiency (12 points, 11 boards and 4 steals), while Ljubomir Mladenovski ('95) added 11 points, 8 rebounds and 3 blocks. 

 

-FYROM 71 Turkey 74: Mehmet Alemdaroglu ('96) became again the key with 19 points, 15 rebounds and 2 steals, while Mert Cevik ('91) added 11 points and 10 boards in only 22 minutes. At FYROM side Martin Krstevski ('95) wasn't enough even his 25 points, even 8/25 FG and 10 turnovers, while Daniel Nacevski ('95) scored 14 points pulling down 16 boards and having 3 steals.

 

-Bulgaria 58 Romania 76: Great win of the hosts with Andrei Ciordas ('95) ending with 21 points, 13 rebounds and 1 block and Mehmet Hortoglu ('95) nailing 16, even 7/20 FG. For bulgarians Vasil Stoimenov ('95) had 22 points, 6 boards and 3 assists and Filip Kamenov ('95) 11 points (4/5 FG) and 8 rebounds.

 

Final standings: Turkey (3-0), Romania (2-1), Bulgaria (1-2) and FYROM (0-3).
