Montenegrin born Nikola Mirotic ('91) is one of the big names of the european scene this season. After two years in spanish minor leagues Real Madrid chose him to be part of the first team due to his spanish passport. But the 6'10'' power-forward surprised everybody, grabbing minutes to players like serbian Novica Velickovic or spaniard Felipe Reyes. In clutch time he has appeared many times to decide the game, with great Euroleague performances against teams such as Charleroi (19pt+6rb in 20'), Montepaschi Siena (16+4 in 17') or Partizan (13+9 in 30'). In this competition he is averaging 7.4+3.2 in only 14 minutes, while in ACB his stats are 8.4+3.8 in 16. Eurohopes staff contacted him.
-Currently you are one of the best european prospects after playing in spanish LEB Bronze only two seasons ago. How do you feel?
Is a prize due to the effort and work well done, showing that if I continue in the same line I can improve and be better. I cannot trust myself, I know I can give more. Actually this is my main concern.
-Your progression is being very fast, reaching a great level in clutch moments with Real Madrid in ACB. What is your goal this season?
My goal is give the 100% for this team, make all the coach asks me and grow as a player. I still have a lot of things to learn.
-You are the number 1 in our '91 ranking, and your name appears in some NBA mock drafts. Will you declare eligible for it?
I don't want to think about it. I am really concentrated with Real Madrid. I am very proud to be part of this club senior team and I must do all is possible to help. We have really tough contests next weeks so we must put all five senses, in ACB and Euroleague. There are many challenges, and I want to live them with Real Madrid.
-Last summer you shined in the Division "A" U-20 European Championship with Spain, and in a few months you will play another U-20 EC in Bilbao. What do you think about '91 spanish generation, with Franch (DKV Joventut), Sastre (Cajasol Sevilla), Simeón (Power Electronics Valencia)...?
Well, I still don't know if I will go. It's early and anything could happen. 1991 generation has many good players, like the ones you told but also others. There is talent, work effort, ilusion, good atmosphere,... I think there are chances to make good things in the future.
-Play with spanish first NT is a dream or a close reality?
Is a dream, but I hope it can become a reality. But I don't think about it too much. I am focus in being a better player and work every day. Any player who reaches the NT is because he previously worked well in his club. This is the only way. I must be concentrated in my team, work for a good trajectory and If I accomplish it I will have more chances to play with Spain.
