Joventut Badalona is the new U-16 Spanish champion after winning the Final Round, held this week in Zaragoza (Spain). Team coached by Paco Redondo -awarded with the Best Coach trophy- beat Regal FC Barcelona in the big final (62-69) behind a good job from Gerard Gomila ('95). The forward, MVP of the game, scored 17 points (8/13 FG) and grabbed 9 rebounds in a very tied contest, even Badalona kids started 11-21 at the end of the first quarter. Beside him also shined youngster Sergi Costa ('96), with 12 points (5/7 FG), while José Ignacio Nogués ('95) added 12 with 6 rebounds. At the losing effort guard Bernat Camarasa ('95) fought (24 with 9/23 FG) and Dídac Cuso ('95) added 14 with 4/10 FG.
La Caja de Canarias ended third in the event after beating Canterbury Idecnet (40-55) even the crazy game of african youngster Bourama Sidibe ('97): 16 points, 14 rebounds and 3 blocks. Mohamed Thiam ('95) led the victory with 18 points (8/15 FG).
