Real Madrid won the 14th edition of the U16 Villa de la Orotava tournament, held this week-end in the Canary Islands (Spain), after beating FC Barcelona Regal in the big final (70-76). Alberto Moreno ('96) led the victory with 15 points and 10 rebounds, even 9 turnovers also. Beside him also shined Ismael Herrero ('96), with 12 and 2/5 threes, while Pablo Martin ('96) -11 and 3 steals- was named the tournament MVP. At the losing effort Adnan Omeragic ('96) wasn't enough: 13 points (6/12 FG) and 6 boards. Pau Camí ('96) added 11 with 5/8 FG.

 

In the game for the third place spaniards of Canterbury beat ukranians of Krania (68-70) with another show of their african duo. Bourama Sidibe ('97) had 25 points, 24 rebounds and 2 blocks and Jonathan Kasibabu ('96) 20+14+3. At the other side Oleksandr Kobets ('96) scored 31 points, but 11/27 FG.

 

Brose Baskets Bamberg defeated Gran Canaria in the fight for the fifth position (61-69) behind a double-double from 6'11'' slovak center Patrik Boloz ('96): 11 points and 11 rebounds in only 20 minutes. At spanish side Thomas Van Haaren ('96) ended with 31 points, 20 boards and 4 assists.

 

Finally Kaunas Aisciai finished seventh after winning local team of San Isidro (48-104). Youngster Mantas Giga ('97), the best at winning effort with 23 points and 14 rebounds in 26 minutes.

 

Final standings: 1-Real Madrid, 2-FC Barcelona Regal, 3-Canterbury, 4-Krania, 5-Bamberg, 6-Gran Canaria, 7-Kaunas Aisciai and 8-San Isidro.
