Marin, a small spanish town close to Santiago de Compostela, held last week-end a new edition of the U15 Friendship Tournament. And Spain took the title, with shooting-guard Xabi López ('97, Joventut Badalona) being selected the MVP of the event. The prospect averaged 15.3 points (33% twos, 54% threes and 61% free throws), 7.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals. Team coached by Jose Maria Silva had three victories in three games. Let's check what happened in each of them.
In their first contest spaniards defeated Greece (73-62) behind Jonathan Barreiro ('97), who ended with 17 points (6/9 FG) and 4 boards, while Ramon Vila ('97) added 16 (6/9 twos) and 6 boards. In the second battle they did the same with Italy (66-60) with Santi Yusta ('97) and Barreiro scoring 20 points apiece. Finally they closed the event with another win, in this case against France after an overtime (91-88). Sergi Garcia ('97) nailed 25 points (5/10 threes), 7 steals and 6 boards and López had 25 also, with 5/8 from the arc and 8 rebounds.
Other results: France 74 Italy 60, France 75 Greece 44 and Italy 66 Greece 74.
Final standings: Spain (3-0), France (2-1), Greece (1-2) and Italy (0-3).
