Member of polish “golden” 1993 generation, Michal Michalak ('93) signed this summer 3-year deal with Trefl Sopot and surprisingly in this preseason is top scorer of last season’s runner-up in Tauron Basket Leage. Let’s check how Michal does feel in new environment after almost month of preparations.

-Why have you decided to join Trefl Sopot?

I signed contract with Trefl, because after first quite successful season in best polish division I had decided to try myself in some top team. In previous year I played in two worst teams in PLK, so now Trefl is natural step forward for me and opportunity to bring my game up to the higher level.

-Have you had any different offers?

To be honest, this offseason I had many opportunities, while many polish team were interested in myself, but I talked also with some abroad teams.

-How do you like work with your new coach, Zan Tabak, who is former standout player and quite young coach?

We have been working under coach Tabak almost month. I have to admit I am impressed by the way how our coach builds relationships with players. He presents big knowledge and experience from both player and coaching careers. I am sure his philosophy and system will allow us a team to fight for the highest place in league and as a individual players to keep improving.

-What is your role in new team?

Coach requires from all players 100% commitment throughout game and to execute well our rules on defensive and offensive end.

-Do you think that season under coach Tabak will help you to improve as a player better?

As I told, coach Tabak is really experienced with a long-time playing career behind him. He was a great player and as a coach had already an opportunity to work with talented players. I think that coach Tabak with his skills belongs to top European coaches and I am sure that working with him will help me to improve.

-So what Michal Michalak can give the team?

Everyone knows I am well-known with a good offensive game and dangerous shooting skills and I will try to bring a lot of advantage to my team in that aspect of the game. However, basketball is not only about offense. I am constantly trying to improve my defensive skills to be able to help as much as possible my team on defensive end too.
