19-year old Janis Berzins ('93) impressed with so far the best performance among European prospects in season 2012/13. Latvian forward led Valmiera on October 10 to win 93:73 over Turiba with 28 points, making all 11 field goals shots, 10 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 blocks in only 28 minutes. “I played my game how I am used to – it was the day when everything felt in. I had a great rhythm since the first minute of the game.” - he tells to Eurohopes.

- Did you feel special before game against Turiba? You had an amazing night and made all field goals shots, finishing with 41 ranking points!

First of all, thanks for congratulations. For every game I go with the highest responsibility, I never sort out whether it is youth team or Euroleague team. Personally, as a player I have to do my job with 100%, and then result won’t disappear. In terms of game against Turiba, I played my game how I am used to – it was the day when everything felt in. I had a great rhythm since the first minute of the game. Even though, the most important is fact, that my team won – it lets me feel satisfied.

- What are your personal and team goals for season 2012/13?

The aims for the team are clear – tough fight for medals in Latvian Basketball League and getting in play-offs in Baltic Basketball League. I will do all my best I can in order to achieve the highest goals.

- You're really experienced on international level, playing couple of times for Latvia at youth European Championships. Do you think are you ready to make another step in order to play in senior NT?

During past summer, the coach of National team – Ainars Bagatskis invited me to 2nd team’s tournament in China. Despite of such a great opportunity, I had to decline. As player of Riga VEF, I had ongoing Latvian Basketball League final series against Ventspils. Obviously, I will be fulfilled if Ainars Bagatskis – appreciated as great player and basketball specialist – will choose me as one of the candidates for the 1st National team next year. It is quite clear, that I will have to deserve it by working incredibly hard. Furthermore, I am looking forward to next summer to participate in U-20 European championship and help my team to be one of the top.

- Do you have any plans for next years? Would you like to play outside Latvia soon?

Currently, I have contract with VEF Riga for actual and next season. This season I am loaned to BK Valmiera to gain more experience, self-confidence in order to become a role player for VEF Riga next year. I am ready to work hard, to make it happen.
