After spending five days in London, England scouting some of the top 1995 and 1996 born prospects in European basketball at Nike International Junior Tournament finals, we report back with our thoughts. This time we present a scouting report on NIJT Finals' All-Tournament Team guard Agusti Sans ('95) from Joventut Badalona.
BODY/ATHLETICISM: At 6’4’’ Sans has the typical physical structure of the new era Euroleague point guard with a very strong physique, fast feet, good wingspan, muscular arms and fast hands. For sure he is not a really explosive player but with his game intensity you will not realize this lack.
OFFENSIVE SKILLS: Sans has really high comprehension of the game, understanding every time what is happening on the court 1 second before the others. His high basketball IQ allows him to be a very effective playmaker with points in the hands: great assists and good control of the rhythm of the game are two of the main characteristic of this player. He, as well as being a great passer, is also a good scorer with good shot choice and good reading of the defense in every situation: good 1vs1, good shot from mid-long range and terrific in transition where he can end with a floater or with a spectacular assist. He is left-handed, but he can also be dangerous with the right hand.
DEFENSIVE SKILLS: Besides being a very creative player in offense, Agusti is a massive factor also in defense. He has fast legs, quick feet and good lateral movements that allows him to be a really good defender on the ball (excellent in PnR situations) and also off the ball intercepting pass. Sans sometimes try to catch the ball too much, but I believe that this is a good indication of his aggressiveness. At rebound he’s not a factor, because of his size, but he’s a smart player and you’ll always find good number in this statistic.
OVERALL RATING: Sans is a complete player from all points of view, talented and solid. In May he’s been awarded as best playmaker of the final act of the Nike International Junior Tournament in London where he ended with 10,5 points (66% from 2 and 28% from 3), 4,5 rebounds and 5,5 assists per game. I believe that he will be one of the most important player for the Spanish national team this summer and I think he can establish himself at the next level with good results.
