A new edition of the Adidas Eurocamp started yesterday with pretty solid group of European prospects ready to showcase their skills in front of NBA scouts, GMs, agents and representatives of European clubs. Eurohopes staff is in Treviso as well. Let's check what did happen the first day.
- After surprising absence of Rudy Gobert (due to sickness) the player who genarated the most buzz was Lucas Nogueira ('92) from Estudiantes Madrid. Lanky 7-footer from Brazil is projected late first round pick. Nogueira had an amazing performance scoring 13 points on 6/7 shooting, adding 3 rebounds and 4 blocks. He showed quite soft hands, protected the rim well, run to the transition and competitiveness above the rim.
- Gobert even didn't appear in Treviso, because according to his official Twitter account he ended up in a hospital the night before. Nevertheless French 7-footer might go even in the lottery. Also Dante Exum ('95) from Australia, possible top10 pick on 2014 didn't participate in the czmp, going only through private shooting session. He has a stracture in his knee, but should be ready for the World Championships U19 at the end of the month.
- In the most interesting game of the Day 1 Serbia U19 won 63:54 over France U20, led by Nikola Jovanovic ('94), who collected double-double with 12 points and 14 rebounds. Stefan Pot ('95) coming off a year off, spent on the court 30 minutes, ending up with 5 points, 3 rebounds, 3 steals and 9 drawn fouls.
- Although auto-eligible and possible late second round pick Nemanja Nedovic ('91) struggled with his jumper (0/2 from the downtown) he did his job done in terms of playmaking. Being matched up with 5-9 Aguille Carr, Nedovic showed nice handle, tremendous pick&roll execution and nice decision making in the open court. Eventually he collected day-high 8 assists and did a great job getting his teammates involved.
- Instead of watching All-Star vs USA Select game at Adidas Eurocamp, we went to Jesolo to see first ever game in national team for Giannis Anetokounmpo ('94). He scored 11 points in Greece's 62:52 win over Croatia, however showed that there is a long way to go for him to become basketball player. Standing at 6-9 with great mobility, massive wingspan and impressive quickness, Anetokounmpop is a more of project so far.
