This past December I was invited to a working meeting of the Technical Office of the Spanish Basketball Federation headed by Angel Palmi, sports Director of FEB. The meeting took place in Iscar, where played the U16 International Tournament.
At this meeting we could see the great work done by the federation for training and tracking players in its formative stages.
After a few months and with Europe and World Championships ahead interviewed the sports director of the FEB, Angel Palmi.
What is the method FEB?
It is a system of work and collaboration with the different levels of the Spanish Basketball which acts as an umbrella FEB stressing different aspects of training and, for example in the case of players, providing an extra competitive internationally allowing more youth acquire a level key formative experience.
Can you explain how each summer their selections make great championships.
Because we try to put at the service of our coaches and players the right tools for the selections in the service of the talent they have their players. It has also created a important mirror effect between new generations inspired by charging higher positive pressure. The competing at the maximum level.
What is the secret, if there is one?
There are no secrets. Just try to apply common sense to the situation. There are no magic formulas. Only many hours of work and a great deal of enthusiasm.
What is your opinion on the future of Spanish basketball, both the training and the racing-elite?
No doubt we are working in good line. For something we benchmark globally with the United States both in male and female categories. But I think one of the keys to continue growth is the inconsistency. We must continue to evolve to maintain a level of performance and competitive ability as exhibited in the last 17 years where we climbed the podium in 1 in 2 championships minimum.
How works the upcoming summer events?
From the Technical Cabinet have controlled more than 350 players performing during the season (at Christmas and Semana Santa) concentrations and tournaments that are essential to advance after working for the summer.
How is working in school-age basketball...
The Basket in schools is one of the greatest possessions in our sport. In this sense we are in ongoing collaboration with 19 regional federations and does a good job. So it is essential to maintain Spain championships this season that were saved despite reducing CSD grant through the impetus of our president Jose Luis Saez.
And there are also ongoing research projects.
Innovation and research are key to remain at the vanguard of our sport. Why invest in new technologies from biomedical to arbitration through the monitoring and analysis of players. We are lucky in addition to a team of technicians who each year leaves the Advanced Course with which we advance in ongoing research programs.
We can say we have a young player to follow in his opinion
Luckily we have a battery of young people are proving their quality as has recently been demonstrated in different European and World Championships. The plan would be to achieve at least 50% medal in the 10 game championships.
