In the final of the Croatian basketball cup “Drazen Petrovic” held in Zagreb on Sunday, Cibona beat Cedevita 2:1 and in turn defended last year's title. Basketball cup “Drazen Petrovic” is a unique event that evaluates quality work in all categories. Younger cadets, cadets, juniors and seniors bring their clubs points during the season. The best two clubs are playing in the finals. Cup winner is the team that wins at least two of the three games of different selections. In the festive atmosphere, the most popular Croatian basketball website, Crosarka, handed out awards to the best young Croatian players last season.
Crosarka MVP awards recipients include Antonio Jularic (Cibona), Lovro Mazalin (Cedevita) and Paolo Marinelli (Union Olimpija). Jularic, the talented 14-year-old point guard, won the Croatian championship with Cibona in his age group. Mazalin has earned recognition as one of the best U16 player in Europe, but was also successful in older age groups. He won a silver medal with the Croatian U18 national team at the European Championship in Latvia and the Croatian championship and cup with the senior team of Cibona. Another player to bring home silver from Latvia was Marinelli, who, as one of the best Croatian players, was selected in the best five players of the tournament.
In a very close competition, Crosarka reporters did not have an easy time choosing the winners of this prestigious award. Especially when it is well known that in Croatia there is a deep talent pool of young players, who have already had a chance to win medals at major events and whose time has yet to come. On Sunday, we could see many young Croatian national team players in action, like Marko Arapovic, Ivica Zubac, Bruno Skokna, Jakov Mustapic, Dario Šaric... Croatia is looking ahead at a very bright basketball future.
