5’9’’ Jolo Mendoza (’98) is one of the best prospects of Philippines. The player from Ateneo de Manila University is small but his talent on offense and effort make him be one of the big hopes of that country. When we were in Dubai (UAE) for the U17 World Championship, we talked with him. He ended the tournament with 12.6 points, 2.0 rebounds and 1.2 steals in 23 minutes. He is only 16 years old.
He showed positive mind: "I don’t want to think about the losses. I just want to think this event is a great experience for my personal career and also the basketball in Philippines in general". Mendoza added that "I am mostly a shooter, but I try to expand my game and not only focus on my shooting. I try to penetrate, help my team offensevely and also in the rebound. I like the fast game, because opportunities not only come for me but also for my teammates". Prospect also said about a possible quit to the NCAA that "I only want to focus in FIBA right now".
Michael Jarin was his head coach in Dubai: "he is the youngest in our team. Future is very bright for this kid. He has a great attitude".
