2021 class German wing Lamin Sabally announced last Friday his commitment with UTSA. Sabally, a top-35 player in the current Eurohopes 2002-born ranking, is playing at Bella Vista Prep (AZ) where he landed after moving from Berlin. He moved to the US following the steps of his two older sisters: former Oregon star and pick number 2 in the 2020 WNBA Draft Satou Sabally and Oregon forward Nyara Sabally.

Lamin Sabally made an early decision despite having interests from Kansas State, Oregon State, Saint Louis, Northern Airzona, Grand Canyon, Seattle, Utah Valley and UC Riverside. Bellow, Sabally discusses his choice.

On UTSA
"I see it as an opportunity for me to actualize my dreams to play college basketball, get college education and get more exposure to life and people in general. And also because UTSA is a college program that believes in me and in my dream to become an NBA player."

On his recruitment
"I definitely feel that I am under recruited. I haven't been seen by high major schools because of this Covid epidemic and the extra year for college seniors, but that doesn’t stop me to work hard for my dreams and become a better player. I am happy I found a good school where I can play basketball and go to school"

On his other options
"They wanted to to see me play in person in January but because of the new rule that coaches can't visit players I had to make my decision earlier"

On his development in the US
"I decided to move to the US in August 2019, because I felt it was the best way for me to go on college and experience a different playstyle. Since I started playing High School basketball I learned to always trust and believe in yourself. I became aggressive, faster and smarter on the court"
