PROFILE

ADIDAS Eurocamp- June 2025
By Artau Pascual

Kharchenkov has good positional size for the wing spot. His body frame is strange, since it doesn’t suggest elite athleticism, and his shoulders and lower-body aren’t particularly appealing, but he plays to his strengths and uses his attributes accordingly. During the event, Kharchenkov showcased the lineup flexibility he provides by adjusting from a primary to a tertiary playmaking role depending on the lineup he had to fit in. He was also able to produce off closeouts and on the open floor by keeping the game simple. He doesn’t slow down the game when he has the ball in his hands. Shooting isn’t attractive, but he will find consistency with his feet set. Swiss-army knife on the defensive end with better footspeed than the one he seems to have. Elite feel for off-ball anticipation and rebounding. Doesn’t shy away from contact.

Functional athlete with OK body. Not flashy in his game, but he’s highly efficient and productive. Plays in the right way all the time. Can be a primary or a secondary playmaker depending on the team needs, and he extends his impact to different ranges.

Offensively, what stands out the most from Kharchenkov is his game perception. He doesn’t need to dribble too much to create: before getting the ball, he has already understood if his advantage is face-up or in the post, and he will turn it into a better situation for his team. He can lead the break or fill the lanes in transition. Doesn’t have a great vertical leap, but he uses his body and balance to score in the paint through extensions and knows how to create contact if needed. OK shooter in spot-up situations.

On the defensive end, Kharchenkov provides versatility and assertiveness. He can defend the ball-handler if needed because of his functional attributes, and he’s disruptive as an off the ball defender. Knows to play bigger than he is. No significant flaws or limitations. High floor player.

FIBA U18 European Championship- August 2023

SG with a strong and compact body standing at 6’6. Wide shoulders. An average athlete. Understands the game – solid basketball IQ. He plays already like he is a pro. Excellent shooter coming off screens, as well as spot-ups. Decent pick&roll player – able to create for others out of it. Good rebounder and a solid defender. Questionable upside.

General Overview - October 2021

Ivan Kharchenkov is a guard with very good shooting skills: he has a smooth and efficient shot. And this is shiftable moving to pro basketball. He knows how to attack close outs and how to exploit the advantages the defense gives him. He has also a good frame. On defense he has to improve his quickness and lateral mobility.
