PROFILE
FIBA U20 European Championship- July 2024
By Artau Pascual
Positive showing from Zacharie Perrin in Gdynia. Still in the middle of the way between the 4 and the 5, and his skillset is less appealing for the next level if he can’t do the 4. Athleticism, defensive adaptability and shooting are the biggest question marks in his case right now.
On the offensive end, Perrin thrived as a passer. His touch and feel from the post and in short roll boosted the French NT offense, and he understood better than usual the amount of attention he drew. Playing with willing cutters helped him to show more of what he can do in this area. On the drive, he did OK attacking closeouts against slower opponents. His timing at putting the ball on the floor is good, handles are quite tight for a player like him and, even if he doesn’t move with long strides, his coordination, and cadence are good.
On the defensive end, playing with versatile and physical wings and forwards helped at hiding his flaws. A very positive thing for him in the event was that he did well at fighting for loose balls and showed an improved motor and rebounding effort in contact situations.
General overview- April 2023
Fluid and coordinated big. His mobility is at a really good level on the offensive end: he can set high screens and dive to the rim, and he's also able to beat opponents with the ball on his hands. Reduced shooting volume, but touch is good and mechanics look consistent. On the defensive end, he lacks the awareness and activity to make a consistent impact, but he has the tools to hold his own matchup. Needs to work on his motor. Solid defensive rebounder, likes to grab and run.
