Van Slooten is listed at 6’7 and his body frame does not give hopes of growth. He owns a developed body with an interesting wingspan of 6’10. But for a wing is already a great body. Van Slooten has a strong upper body with still room to bulk it up. His lower body is explosive but he lacks big leaping ability. He has good athleticism but he uses more his strength to get advantage.
During last season Van Slooten focused on perimeter shooting and the number of 3-point attempts increased in his game. His mechanicals are not accurate and he elevates a little in his jumpshot. His shooting range is wide but he doubts sometimes in open shots and he has not big confidence in his shooting tools.
Van Slooten is a wing and can play both wing positions in a solid way. His most outstanding weapon is his slashing ability that makes him able to finish close to the rim. His court vision, basketball IQ and passing skills are remarkable. Van Slooten has a mature game and is smart to take advantage reading situations, mismatches and weaknesses of rivals. He is able to hit shots but needs to improve this part of his game to play at higher level.
Van Slooten is able to guard wings and power forwards thanks to his physical condition. He is great anticipating and helps a lot at defensive board. The German has room to improve his lateral quickness that actually is just average.
Van Slooten played FIBA U16 European Championship being one year younger and showed his poise and maturity hitting the winning shot in the last game. He also participated with two Spanish teams in different tournaments: Betis Sevilla at Minicopa in 2016 and FC Barcelona at U15 Farners tournament.
Luc David Van Slooten is a very solid wing with advanced mature in his game and good athleticism to develop. The evolution of his shot will determinate the ceiling of his game.
